Look at the bounty that we got out of our garden this year. This is just a portion of course. We picked things out of it nearly every day. The kids even got sick of cucumbers--I didn't think that was possible.
I bought small cucumbers and bottled pickles--we can't wait to taste them. Next year we are going to grow our own small cucumbers and save ourselves some money--maybe we can also do just a few jars at a time instead of 27 at once!
We bought raspberries and made 3 batches of jam. We sent some to Landon in Virginia--a tasty treat from home.
I asked the people at the local garden shop to give me some pointers on growing corn since we haven't had much success with it in the past. He told me to fertilize it with Nitrogen every 2-3 weeks. We did that and we grew 4 really nice rows of corn. We have enjoyed that this summer. Here are just a couple of the rows of cornstalks that I knocked down as I was cleaning out my garden for the winter.
It feels good to put the food down on the shelves and know that we have something saved away for the future. Now to clean up the mess we've made in the process!
