Whitney Prom 2009

Here is Whitney and Seth ready for the Prom. Seth is a really nice kid from our ward who has liked Whitney for a long time. They went out once before and Whitney had a fun time--he is a really funny kid. I am a horrible picture taker, but this will give you an idea. She wore the same dress that she wore last year when she went with another kid from our ward(maybe we will dub this the "kid down the street" dress--lol). It is nice to have Whitney go out and know that she will have a good time and I don't have to worry about her.

WICKED

This is not a good picture, but you are not supposed to take pictures in the theatre. I just snapped this one right before the show started. Wicked was great!! We had such a good time. I think that Landon was a little skeptical when I told him that we had tickets, but even he really liked it. Alexa thought that it was wonderful. Now I just want to see it again--it gets you hooked.
Now I guess that we just look forward to Lion King coming next year!

Cool Fort!

Alexa made Hayden and Katie this cool fort after the dance recital--they were so excited to have their own space--they are sure funny.

Alexa's Spring dance recital 2009

Alexa had her final dance recital for this year for dance. She did really well. I took the pictures when they were out in the hall practicing and when she got home. She is going to take some technique and ballet in the Summer and get back into competitions in the Fall.

JOB

The good news continues. Landon got the job at Seven Peaks. He is excited because he can make some good money over the Summer and now he can buy what he wants for school next year. Now I just need Whitney to find something just for a few hours a night and we will be set.

Spring Break at the Aquarium

I don't know about anyone else, but our weather out here has been weird this year. We go from days that are mid 70's back to days that are in the 30's, rainy and cold. The kids are out for Spring Break for the rest of the week, and of course it was cold yesterday--it actually snowed several inches last night, although it is melting pretty fast today. We decided to use our annual passes to the aquarium and take the kids up to see the new African exhibit. They have spiders, snakes and piranha's now. We had a good time. The kids favorite part is always petting the sting rays.

Easter 2009

Finally, I am getting around to posting the Easter Pictures. I forgot to take a picture of the kids once they were in their new church clothes, but here they are doing eggs and finding their baskets on Easter morning.

Happy 15th Birthday Landon

Landon turned 15 years old today!! He can now go and get his learners permit and he can start driving around with an adult in the car (scary). He has been such a fun kid, it has been a joy to see him grow up. Happy Birthday Landon! We Love You!

Update on Landon's knee

Landon had his post-op appointment yesterday, and everything seems to be healing well. Again, the Dr. said he has no idea how Landon did what he did to his knee (where he took a chunk out of the cartilige). The chunk was taken out from under the padding that is between your bones. Hopefully they got it cleaned up good. He has been doing great and has gained most of his movement back. He just needs to wait another couple of weeks before he starts running on it or doing anything too jarring.

Landon's Surgery

Landon has been having problems with his left knee for over 9 weeks now. It was still swelling and in pain for the whole 9 weeks. We have had him in for Physical Therapy--thanks to a great neighbor. We went and saw an Orthopedic specialist, who has been wonderful. They did an MRI, but that came out clean. We continued therapy, but the knee conitnued to get worse and we are trying to change our insurance coverage, so we opted to do a scope to see what was going on.
We went in this morning and the Dr. said that it was a good thing. He said that sometimes the MRI just doesn't pick up on something, but Landon actually had 2 things wrong with his knee. He had Plica, which is a result of a remnant of fetal tissue in the knee. The synovial plica are membranes that seperate the knee into compartments during fetal development. The plica normally diminish in size during the second trimester. Many people have this with no adverse effects. Landon's tightened up due to knee trauma caused during basketball. They can become hard and damage the knee. I googled it, and it said that a tightened plica behaves like a bowstring, eroding the medial facet of the patella and medial femoral condyle, causing anteromedial knee pain and a clicking noise as the plica snaps over the end of the femur. The symptoms mimic other knee disorders, and are difficult to diagnose. They cut the plica down and cleaned it up.
The second thing that he had was what they call a Chondral defect. basically, due to some injury (during basketball or snowboarding), he damaged several layers of cartilage. Cartilage is not like bone and it doesn't heal itself. If it does, it doesn't heal well and what you are left with is not great. Landon had torn his cartilage and it was sticking up and so the Dr. shaved it down so that it wouldn't bother him.
Look at all that I learned today!! Landon was in surgery only for about 35 minutes and when they brought him out, he recovered quickly. They said that we might be in for 5-6 hours, but they said that he could leave as soon as he could hold down food and water. He did that right away and we were actually in and out within 3 hours. He will be bandaged up for 3 days with his leg elevated and ice on it--after that he can ditch the crutches when he feels like it and he can start to get back to normal activity. My neighbor will do physical therapy on him for a month or so and hopefully he will start feeling better soon.

Katie is a silly goose

Here are some pictures of Katie from when we went down to Toquerville for Dallins baptism. The kids were dressing up in all kinds of weird attire. I am not good at remembering to get pictures, but I did snap a couple of Katie toward the end. She cracks me up--her personality is just so big--you can see it in her pictures.
